Texas 2024
Eclipse day (April 8) our observing site was cloudy. But other than that, we enjoyed the trip a lot
At the Witte Museum, Alan admires a museum-grade microscope designed by our friend and Alan's colleague from the 1970s, Budd Wentz. The eyepiece is so big that more than one person can look through it at a time. These "Wentzscopes" are at many museums.
We didn't see an eclipse but Texas gave us the boot—the world's biggest boots in San Antonio.
We went to the NASA Space Center in Houston and the best thing we saw there was this Apollo Mission Control experience with everything pretty much exactly as it was during the Apollo Missions.
And last but not least our tour group went to a Buc-ees in Katy Texas for a rest stop. It's crazy impressive with dozens of gas pumps, dozens of Tesla charging stations (go figure), HUGE restrooms (VERY clean), and massive racks of all kinds of goods and snacks.
