2015

Happy New Year 2015!

[For our New Year card, we reminisce on the highlights of the previous year, in this case 2014...]

Message from Alan:

2014 was my first full year of retirement. Signed up for Medicare since I turned 65. Noteworthy events that I recall:

    • Attending the Lawrence Hall of Science Gala in June (photo of Diane and me there on this page)

    • My brother Dan and I performing at my Uncle Charlie’s November home concert (recordings/videos posted at https://www. youtube.com/user/adg0uld)

    • Republican takeover of control of Congress (we get to see in 2015 whether they’re capable of passing legislation that can won’t earn Obama’s veto)

    • In Sept 2013, two friends/co-Leaf owners (Nissan electric cars) and I went before Berkeley City Council to urge them to allow permits for electric vehicle owners to have curbside charging for their vehicles. In a little over a year, City of Berkeley has implemented a pilot project to allow for curbside electric vehicle—first in the nation as far as we know.

Message from Diane:

I am still working at the Regional Laboratory for Northern California Kaiser. My job overseeing Cytology, Histology, and Immunohistochemistry is unchanged. With a great team, we continue to make improvements in patient specimen integrity and identification, quality and service. This year the Laboratory had to deal with a fire that burned down the building next door, patient specimen deliveries disrupted by protestors on the freeways, and discussions on dealing with Ebola. Alan’s retirement has made me hypervigilant for any changes in and around the house. I have come home to see a fluorescent lime green driveway that small planes or drones could see and land on in the dark. Someday I expect to fall into a pit as I walk up to the front door. So if you have something for him to do, please contact him. immediately.

We’ll be in Iceland and Faroe Islands for total solar eclipse in March 2015.
